Das Movement. Es geht in Midnight schon lange nicht mehr nur um Streetwear allgemein. Es geht inzwischen auch darum, etwas zu bewegen. Der erste kleine Erfolg war, dass ich es als erster Ausländer in die öffentliche Kunstszene Mönchengladbachs geschafft habe - inklusive dem Bürgermeister als Gast. Ich habe, da ich aber das große Ganze sehe und mich für meine Gegend einsetzen möchte, mich dazu entschieden, einen Teil von dem mit Midnight erwirtschafteten Gewinn zu spenden.
Plan a) war, einen Spielplatz für Kinder zu bauen. Diese haben dort leider nur einen tristen Sandkasten sonst nichts… Früher war dort ein richtiger Spielplatz, dieser wurde aber abgerissen. Jetzt wollte ich mein Geld spenden und dort einen neuen hin bauen. Leider hat die Stadt es nicht erlaubt, dort einen privaten Spielplatz hin zu bauen, obwohl der Platz selbst privat ist. Der Grund: Die Fläche ist öffentlich zugänglich. Schade eigentlich, denn ich wollte den Kindern so einen Rückzugsort geben. Eine Möglichkeit, aufzuwachsen ohne Gewalt oder Perspektivlosigkeit.
Also musste Plan b) her. Wie ihr auf dem Bild erkennen könnt, ist das der Fußballplatz der Kinder. Ich werde nun nächste Woche die Wand streichen und dort ein Tor hin bauen. Und ein kleines Fußballfeld kennzeichnen. Den Rest des Geldes werde ich dann dem Jugendzentrum spenden. Wieso ich das tue? Ich denke es ist wichtig, wenn man von der Stadt allein gelassen wird und man erfolgreich ist, man der Gemeinschaft und besonders dem Ort, in dem man aufgewachsen ist, etwas zurück zu geben.
The MOVEMENT. Midnight is not about streetwear in a long time. It’s more about pushing boundaries. Forging ahead with small steps, I’ve achieved being displayed in the official art scene in Moenchengladbach – with guests like the mayor. As I’m always looking at the big picture, I’ve decided to donate a part of the profit to support my area. Thinking about possible opportunities, I’ve came up with two ideas.
Plan A) Build a playground for the local youth. In former times, there has been a proper playground which got demolished. Today, only a triste sandbox remains. With a part of my profits, I wanted to build a new private playground but the city canceled my plans. Reason why? The area is publicly accessible, sad but true. I wanted to give the kids a safe haven. An opportunity to grew up without violence or lack of perspective. However, I came up with more than one idea.
Plan B) As you can see in the picture, this i the football pitch of the kids growing up here. Next week, I’ll paint the wall and set up a goal. Moreover, I’ll mark the football pitch. The rest of the money will be donated to the activity center.
You may ask yourself why am I doing this, but the reason can be explained easily. For me it’s important to give something back to the place and community where I grew up. In contrast to myself, the city does not care about those places and does not offer any help to provide a save future for the kids
